Bourbon Barbeque Sliders With Bleu Cheese
Spicy barbeque sauce is amped up with bourbon and slathered on sliders. The whole thing gets topped with bleu cheese and eaten with reckless abandon.
Recipe type: Appetizer
Serves: 6 sliders
  • For barbeque sauce:
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tbsp. bourbon
  • 2 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp. molasses
  • 2 tsp. yellow mustard
  • 1 tsp. chili powder
  • Dash cayenne pepper (optional, but recommended!)
  • For bleu cheese topping:
  • ½ cup mayonnaise or plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 oz. bleu cheese
  • For burgers:
  • 1 pound ground meat (I used turkey)
  • 1 tsp. Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp. soy sauce or tamari
  • salt and pepper
  • 1 tbsp. oil
  • 1 cup baby greens
  • 6 slider buns, split in half.
  1. Combine all sauce ingredients in a small saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a simmer and stir occasionally until sauce is thickened (coats the back of a spoon), about 15 minutes. Set aside.
  2. Meanwhile, stir mayo (or yogurt) together with bleu cheese and refrigerate.
  3. Combine ground meat, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, and salt and pepper in a medium size bowl. Divide meat mixture into 6 slider-sized patties (you could also just make 3-4 burgers). Heat oil in a large skillet over medium high heat and add sliders, allowing them to sear for 3-4 minutes. Flip over, baste sliders with a bit of barbeque sauce (about a teaspoon) and sear for 3-4 minutes. Flip over once more and baste again with barbeque sauce. Cook for 1-2 minutes or until sliders are cooked through and sauce has begun to soak in.
  4. Build sliders in the following order: spread barbeque sauce on the bottom of each bun, top with greens, and slider patty. Spread bleu cheese mixture on the top buns and place on top of patties. Store any leftover barbeque sauce in the refrigerator for a couple days, or in the freezer for up to a month.
